Tire Pressure Warning Light_216248072

Sometimes, you might be driving through Minnetonka and see a flashing tire pressure light on your dashboard, even after you’ve filled your tires with the proper amount of pressure. If this is the case, then it’s likely that your tire pressure light just needs to be reset. Learn how to reset a tire pressure light with the service center at Motorwerks MINI, and visit us for all of your service needs.

Flashing Tire Pressure Light Meaning

Your tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) is a crucial component of your vehicle that uses sensors to indicate if any of your vehicle’s tires are overinflated or underinflated. If you see your TPMS light on during your St Louis Park, it usually means that your tires need proper air pressure. However, if you see a flashing tire pressure light, it could indicate that the battery needs to be replaced since tire pressure sensors use a battery. Another possible issue could be that one of the sensors is malfunctioning.

If you see a flashing tire pressure light, then schedule service at Motorwerks MINI to have it quickly diagnosed and resolved.

How to Reset a Tire Pressure Light Step by Step

Once you have inflated your vehicle’s tires with the proper amount of pressure, then the tire pressure light shouldn’t flash on your dashboard. However, if you see your TPMS light on even after you’ve inflated your tires, it may just need a reset. Here’s how to reset the tire pressure light:

  1. Drive at least 50 mph for about 10 minutes to reset the sensor.
  2. Turn the vehicle off, and then turn the key to the “on” position without actually starting the car.
  3. Hold the TPMS reset button until you see the tire pressure light blink three times. Then, release the reset button. Consult your owner’s manual for where your tire pressure reset button is.
  4. Inflate your vehicle’s tires 3 PSI over the recommended amount, and then deflate all of them entirely. If you have a spare tire, include that as well since many spare tires have sensors.
  5. After all of the tires are deflated, inflate them to their normal pressure levels.
  6. Making sure that the vehicle is off, locate your vehicle’s battery and disconnect the positive cable using a wrench.
  7. Turn on your car and honk the horn for around three seconds.
  8. Reconnect the battery.

Once you’ve performed all of the above steps, then your tire pressure light should be reset. If you don’t feel comfortable resetting it yourself or if the light still flashes, then visit our service center near Minneapolis to have our experts take care of it.
